Modest Fashion Challenge | Day 5: Midi Skirt

You know you're not a fashion blogger when you read the word "midi" and think "huh?" Honestly, thank you Google. I would've have made a fool of myself, well, more of myself if I would have worn a totally different style. Today's modest style challenge was (you guessed it) to wear a midi skirt.This Merona skirt is so flowy, seriously be careful on windy days. Like today. And yes, I may have flashed some family members and neighbors. However, the material is so lightweight and the pattern so pretty. It makes this crazy mama look stylish as she runs around with a tot haha

Modest Fashion Challenge; Day 4

Happy Independence Day beauties!

Today was super rainy and yucky but I still managed to get dressed AND get photos for the challenge (thanks babe!) The challenge was red, white or blue but what can I say...I thought of color block so that's what I did. I know, I'm such a rebel.

It's too bad the weather is awful. This day has not felt like the normal holiday at all but I still got to spend some special quality time with my husband and son. Actually, while my son napped, we spent time in the garage creating some new things! I married a very handyman and it pays off for sure. So be prepared for more tutorials and new shop items.

Modest Fashion Challenge: Day 2 + 3

You guys, I did it!! Even though I didn't post yesterday (or technically get dressed but whatever) today I actually followed through and now here are Day 2 and Day 3 style challenges! If you recall, I'm participating in a July modest style challenge hosted by the lovely Chandra from Momomod. You can read about it here.

Day 2 was "Stripes" so I had to try something festive for July 4th. I love this red vintage cardigan with striped cuffs. The shirt is also matching stripes but can you believe it was purchased separate? Like not meant as a set? Crazy good. I also had to throw in my navy and white polka dot skirt and white bow heels. This was going to be my church outfit before the weather got scary and we stayed home. The tote is from our Rockport trip and even though the blue is off, it's stripes and it's gorgeous.

And Day 3 makes today, which is Thrifted Thursday! Which is awesome since 95.5% of my wardrobe is thrifted. I absolutely love this floral flowy skirt I bought a few months ago. It actually is handmade (you can totally tell by the stitching and cut) but it fits me so good. I threw on top a white vintage sheer cotton dress with lace detail, kelly green tee and a classic black cardigan with a detailed edge. My heavily used black flats are the only thing not thrifted.

A few things learned from this challenge already:
#1 I really hate "posing" for pictures.
#2 I'm ridiculously awkward at anything graceful, like "posing" for pictures
#3 I desperately need new clothes. Here I come Savers! Well, in September when they have their 50% off clothing Labor Day sale.

From now on, I'm going to do my best to post every day like a good lil' blogger.

Tomorrow is the Fourth of July, wow! We have yet to figure out what we'll be doing to celebrate. What have you planned for the weekend?

Modest Fashion Challenge | Day 1: Favorite Skirt

Welp! Here I go trying another 30 day challenge. What am I thinking, right? We all know I flunked the 30-day Remix challenge, the Art is Life challenge (which I WILL finish one day) and Breaking the Chains 30-day devotional series. Well, at least that last one I finished off-line and turned it to an uplifting ebook! That counts, right?

When I heard that fellow Apostolic blogger Chandra was having a modest style challenge, I knew I had to try! Being a work-at-home mama makes it easy to chill in pjs all day. My clothing style has really suffered and I've been thinking about reviving it lately. It's easy to get away from taking care of yourself. So for the month of July, I'll be actually styling an outfit and getting dressed every day ! Not to mention sharing it here and on Instagram.

This first post seems so boring but hey I'm NOT a fashion blogger! I just dream of being one. My favorite skirt right now is this Oscar de la Renta dark demin jean skirt. The length is perfect for me and the jean isn't too stiff. It can be dressed up or down, a huge plus for this momma. I did have to customize the side seams to fit my body type but overall it's the perfect jean skirt in the history of ever!

To be honest, I wasn't going to do this challenge but then I remembered what I wrote in the last letter to David. Doing this modest fashion challenge in July is the perfect way to be an example to my son about the beauty of holiness when it comes to clothing.

Hello beauties! Can you believe I wrote a new post again? You guys, I actually feel like a real blogger, aw! The truth us, I know that you know that I love graphic tees. It feels so good to be drawing again. I've come to the conclusion that no matter how I try, I cannot give up art. It was a nice break though. I was inspired and came back refueled. Today I just wanted to share with you two new prints that are available in the shop. They are called "FRAYED" and "Fancy."

Pencil illustrations are at the core of my passions. The simplicity of using a pencil on a blank piece of paper intrigues the heart. As a young girl, I delighted in smudged fingertips lost in imagination. As an adult, nothing much has changed except maybe inspiration. I'd love to know what you think of these latest works.

What I Wore {While Writing}: Lacy Camo

This is only my second WIWWW series post and I have to tell you, I'm dressing mighty comfy today. Though not as colorful as my previous outfit, I still can't get enough of this lacy tank top from Target! And as I'm typing this, I realize I have shown you two looks so far with tank tops. I would say I'm sorry and that things will change but that will be lying. I don't lie. Truth: I'm in love with tanks. They might be coming around again.

I've decided against making a list of everything I wear plus the links like I did before.
Two reasons being:
1.) I have a lot of mixed, hand-me-down, thrifted clothing.
2.) I don't keep up with the latest trends/fashions so you most likely won't find it in the store anyway

Wow, that makes me kinda sad fashion wise. I guess I'm a poor nerdy writer girl who doesn't wear name brands unless they are gifted to her...hope you enjoy my new "fashion" series....

Oh and I almost forgot to talk about the skirt and sandals. The skirt is actually made (poorly I might add) by me from an old pair of camo pants. Super comfortable that it should be illegal. Truth: I didn't want to show you the huge tear in the back. It's embarrassing as I was strolling with my son to the park and I heard a big "RIPPPPPP!!!" On a busy street I might add. Luckily I'm a mom and we just learn how to roll with things. So I pretended I wasn't aware of the gaping hole that showed way more of my legs than I wanted to.
The sandals are another Target purchase and I always like the way that they feel but not always the way that they look. What do you think of them? I would opt in to wearing plain flip flops any day.

Oh and one more thing {man, I'm loosing brain cells} do you see the cute blue and yellow lamp?!! I totally spray painted it for my newly designed living room! It was originally an old gold-bronze and the shade was off-white and dirty. Blasted the two with spray paint and {after a very interesting adventure which I will have to discuss with you another time} wala! The color combo is beautiful. My heart is swelling like a bee just stung it. What colors have you been crushing on lately?

What I Wore {While Writing}: Nerd Glasses Tank

First, I want to clarify something: I don't iron. Well I know how but to me it is optional. And I usually opt out of it {see above photos for proof.} Oh yeah and just to warn you...this short post is laced with links.

Now that the important issues are out of the way, can we talk about this cute nerd glasses tank?! I love it! It is fitted and comfortable. Also bright and cute; two very necessary things when it comes to my wardrobe. Wearing bright colors puts me in a great mood. I feel empowered and fun. It really helps with keeping a positive attitude as I write. PS: this is not my office space. We had a flood last month in the basement and my current desk is MIA. So I've setup shop on our buffet table in the dining room for now. I have to say, I kinda like the location better!

If you're wondering about the book I am holding, it is an awesome read. I'm almost done with it but I already highly recommend. You will see me dressed in this #WIWWW series (almost like WIWW/ What I Wore Wednesday but with a spin) that I don't wear pants. It is a personal lifestyle choice for me based on my relationship with Jesus. The book is called "The Girl in the Dress" and it talks about holiness and modesty. I've had the privilege of meeting the author Lori Wager two years ago during our young ladies conference and she gave me confidence to write my book on purity. Her book is available on her website or in eBook form on Amazon.

Oh and ignore what is behind the curtain...just a way to dress up a buffet table and create extra storage. Like more of these tank tops!

What I Wore {While Writing} / New Series

I think I did it, folks. I think I've made history.

Well, not yet anyway but I've been thinking for the last few months about this blog. If you've stuck with me through all of my blogcations and blakes {blog vacations and blog breaks, get it?}, I sincerely thank you. There is nothing more frustrating than following a blog and then having the blogger stop writing new content.

As a stay-at-home/ almost work-at-home wife and mommy, blogging is the best outlet for my creative mind. It's like a digital journal and way to connect with other awesome people. If you still read my blog, you may remember when I was participating in a fashion series started by +Danielle Doerr from Framed Frosting. It was called the Six Piece Remix series and though I didn't finish the entire six weeks, I had a blast doing it!

When re-vamping this blog, I wanted something to showcase my writing but not lose that fashion fun side. I admit, I do not consider myself a fashionista or trend-setter by any means. Which is WHY I am launching a new blog series! It is time to hang up my furry bathrobe, throw those jammies into the hamper and have some daily fun in my closet. I've been actually practicing getting dressed every day...isn't that kinda sad for me to say? Mommies that stay home, you KNOW what I am talking about!

So I am infusing fashion and writing, two things that are fun for me and two things that I actually haven't seen together in the blog world. I'm not talking about being a "fashion writer" but about how fashion can help writing. Every day, I write. I schedule time when my baby boy is sleeping to get down on my laptop and type like mad. Sometimes, creativity doesn't show up and inspiration is running dry. To get the wheels turning and ideas flowing, I am going to experiment with some fashion love.

You all know, when you have a cute outfit on and your hair all stylin', you feel GOOD about yourself. You feel confident and bold. You feel successful before you even leave the house. Well, I am in the house all day, so why not change out of the frumpy-comfies and into something with personality!

I hope you will join me as I start this new devotion to writing while being fashionable. Disclosure: I'm not going to dress like the hottest Vogue cover girl or the latest celebrity. I am going to still be me, using what I have, to bring a positive environment into my space so that my mind can be free to create great things.
